What Is PC Software?

PC software includes programs that make computers more efficient and productive. Common examples include word processors, music and video game players and telecommunications applications.

The most basic type of pc software is system software, which translates program code into a form that can be executed by the CPU. System software also manages hardware systems and other essential operations.

Geographic Information System (GIS)

GIS (Geographical Information System) is software that combines computer mapping capabilities with data storage and analysis. Commercial GIS systems can be used for a wide variety of applications and industries, from analyzing and planning new developments to documenting traditional knowledge.

Geographic information systems help people see patterns and relationships by linking seemingly unrelated data on a map. They can use any information that has a location component, including latitude and longitude, road or street addresses, ZIP codes, land parcels, cadastral records and surveyor benchmarks.

A GIS can be accessed from the desktop, through a handheld device or in a mobile phone. GIS technology is being used in all sorts of institutions, from governments at all levels to corporations and non-profits. Some are using it to track and respond to natural disasters, while others are integrating geospatial data into their business processes. For example, a company that manufactures pollution control equipment can use GIS to compare the locations of plants that produce and sites where water supplies come from in order to determine where to best place new facilities.

Image Processing

Image processing is the manipulation of digital images with the use of computer algorithms and techniques. It is a crucial preprocessing step for many Deep Learning-based Computer Vision tasks and can be used to enhance an existing image or to sift out important details from it.

The most basic form of image processing is to convert the original signal into a two-dimensional array of pixels where each pixel represents a point of color and brightness. Then, the image processing system applies fixed sequences of operations on every pixel of the signal to improve its quality or get important information from it.

Feature detection in image processing involves the identification and representation of distinctive features within an image. It is an essential operation because it reduces the image dimensionality which makes processing faster and more efficient. This also increases the accuracy of various tasks such as spotting and recognition. Moreover, it can be performed in real-time by computers.

Videoconferencing

Videoconferencing is a communication platform that uses video cameras to allow users to interact and collaborate remotely. It is a core component of many unified communications platforms and can be conducted from laptops, tablets, desktop computers, smartphones or dedicated conference rooms.

Features like dynamic webcams and custom layouts can create a more natural meeting experience and help employees stay connected regardless of their physical location. Videoconferencing can also be used to host meetings with customers and other external stakeholders, and can save companies time and money on travel expenses.

Most videoconferencing platforms include a chat feature that allows participants to communicate with each other in real-time. Users can also exchange documents, presentations and other types of files with each other through these tools. Some videoconferencing applications support multipoint conferences, allowing the participation of multiple sites in one meeting. These conferences can be held in continuous presence (CP) mode or voice activated mode. The latter mode ensures higher image quality.

Web

Designed to make PCs more productive and fun to use, application software programs include word processors (such as Microsoft Office), music and video players, online communication tools like Skype and Google Hangouts and graphics and design software. This also includes productivity software, database management systems and security software.

System software manages hardware and basic system operations, and is the first program to run when a computer is turned on. It also includes utilities that help with maintenance, power management and interpreting a program’s written instructions into digital form, called machine language.

Graphics software enables the PC to create, edit and print two- and three-dimensional designs, drawings, plans, maps and visualizations. This can be useful in analyzing crime and security incident patterns by neighborhood, locating the location of company vehicles or containers, or designing security equipment and console layouts. This type of software can also be used to generate and display presentations and charts. It is sometimes bundled with other auxiliary applications to perform complete tasks.
