What is a skin tag?

A skin tag is a widespread, harmless condition. It is a piece of skin that protrudes from the surrounding skin, and may appear attached. Skin tags can vary quite a bit in appearance. They can be light or dark, smooth or rough, and be raised above the skin or have a root (a peduncle) so the skin tag hangs.
