What is a skin tag?

A skin tag is a common, benign condition which consists of a bit of skin that projects from the surrounding skin and may appear attached. All skin tags can look different. They can be light or dark, smooth or rough, and be raised above the skin or have a root (a peduncle) so the skin tag hangs.
