- Snoring arises when the air passage is blocked, thereby inhibiting easy and normal breathing during sleep.
- The muscles in the throat are kept open while a person is awake, but when they are asleep they relax and close up. Snoring occurs when the airways is blocked by muscles that relax too much.
- The more the throat is blocked by the muscles, the louder the snoring.
- Nasal blockages can cause snoring because the person has to breathe through their mouth. The tongue is pushed back when the mouth is open, and makes the uvula to press against the throat.
