I snored chronically.

In my youth it was a problem going on trips with friends - my snoring would keep them awake all night.

Snoring Facts

  • Snoring develops in situations where the air passage is blocked, thereby inhibiting normal breathing while sleeping.


  • The more the throat is blocked by the muscles, the louder the snoring.


  • Nasal blockages can cause snoring because the person has to breathe through their mouth. When the mouth is open, the tongue gets pushed back and makes the uvula to push against the back of the throat.


  • Muscles in the throat, which are open while the body is awake, relax and sag during sleep. Snoring occurs when these muscles collapse (i.e. become too lax), creating a blockage at the airway.
