I had a chronic case of snoring.

In my youth it was a problem going on trips with friends - my snoring would keep them awake all night.

Snoring Facts

  • Snoring arises by a blocked air passage, in that way inhibiting easy and usual breathing while sleeping.


  • Snoring can be the result of a nasal blockage, when the mouth has to be used to inhale. In an open-mouth position the tongue is pushed back causing the uvula to press against the back of the throat.


  • Throat muscles stay wide open when the body is awake, but at the onset of sleep they relax inwards. When they relax more than necessary the airway can become blocked and snoring will result.


  • The more the throat is blocked by the muscles, the louder the snoring.


  • Snoring is often hereditary.

  • People who gain significant amounts of weight may begin snoring, especially those middle-aged or older.
