Why do I get heartburn?
Heartburn and acid reflux can be caused by an assortment of things. Some of these would include: Eating a large meal, an over-acidic stomach, H. pylori bacterium, a damaged lower esophageal sphincter or digestive problems.
Damaging their lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus is the reason most people get heartburn. Sometimes this damage from heartburn is negligible and other times it is very bad. Nevertheless, it can be cured - and quite simply too!
When stomach acid vapors touches lesions on the esophagus heartburn and acid reflux is experienced. This can cause a lot of pain - a burning sensation in the chest area. It feels similar to getting acidic vinegar in an open wound.
If someone is experiencing pain when they drink acidic juice (like orange or tomato) they probably have a damaged esophagus. People that don’t have pain don't get heartburn or acid reflux because their digestive system has no problems.

What is Heartburn?
Heartburn is a soreness underneath the breast bone, and feels like scalding water is sitting in your chest. The back of the body can also be a location for heartburn, but still in the same chest region. Heartburn is one of those conditions that almost everyone will face at some point in their lives. When you have heartburn there is nothing wrong with your heart - only your digestive system. Heartburn can often be fixed by taking medication for indigestion. This is because it is usually linked to meals or posture.
What Causes Heartburn?
Food is digested by acid in the stomach. Heartburn arises as the result of little quantities of this stomach acid go up into the gullet (esophagus) - the tube which carries food from the mouth to the stomach. This is called reflux.
