Why do I get heartburn?
Heartburn and acid reflux can have several origins. Digestive problems, an over acidic stomach, eating a large meal, H. pylori bacterium, or a damaged lower esophageal sphincter.
The majority of people experience heartburn because they have damaged their (LES) lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus. The harm caused by heartburn varies - sometimes it is very slight, other times it can be quite major. Nonetheless it is simple to cure!
People suffer from heartburn and acid reflux when the fumes from stomach acid touches wounds on the esophagus. This will be sore - like the sensation that the chest is being burnt from inside. Ever get any acidic vinegar on a cut? Hurts doesn’t it?
Pain can be felt if you drink tomato or orange juice and the acid in the juice comes into contact with grazes on the esophagus. Clearly, if someone doesn't get that pain they won't suffer from heartburn or acid reflux because their digestive organs are in good working order.

What is Heartburn?
Heartburn is an ache located behind the breast bone, and feels like your chest is burning on the inside. It can also be felt in line with the heart but closer to the person's back. The pain of heartburn is felt by nearly everyone at some point. Heartburn has nothing to do with the heart - it is a digestive problem. Heartburn is generally related to meals and posture and can often be relieved by remedies for indigestion.
What Causes Heartburn?
Acid is present in the stomach to digest food. Heartburn arises as the result of little quantities of this stomach acid go up into the gullet (esophagus) - the tube which transports food from the mouth down into the stomach. The acid rising is called reflux.
