Why do I get heartburn?
Heartburn and acid reflux can have several origins. Some of these would include: A damaged lower esophageal sphincter, an over acidic stomach, eating a large meal, H. pylori bacterium or digestive problems.
Most people experience heartburn because of a damaged (LES) lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus. Sometimes this heartburn damage is minimal and other times it is quite severe. However it can be eliminated easily!
Heartburn and acid reflux occurs when vapors from the stomach acid makes contact with the sores on the esophagus. When acid fumes or acid come in contact with the lesions in your esophagus they will cause pain - like a feeling of scalding in the chest area. It feels similar to getting acidic vinegar in an open wound.
When people drink orange or tomato juice the acid in the drinks comes in direct contact with the sores and lesions on the esophagus and it causes pain. People who don't feel this pain don't get heartburn or acid reflux because their digestive organs are in good working order.

What is Heartburn?
Heartburn is a chest pain (behind the breast bone), best described like an ongoing scalding feeling. Although normally located at the front of the chest, it can sometimes be felt deeper towards the back. At some point or another, almost everyone will endure the pain of heartburn. The name heartburn is actually misleading, because it is a digestive problem. Heartburn is generally related to meals and posture and can often be relieved by remedies for indigestion.
What Causes Heartburn?
The body uses acid in the stomach to digest food. Heartburn occurs when small amounts of this acid rise up into the gullet (esophagus) - this ascension is called reflux.
Unlike the stomach, the esophagus doesn't have a protective lining, so it can become tender and irritated if it is touch by the acid. More Causes of Heartburn
