Why do I get GERD?
GERD and heartburn can be the result of a variety of things. These include: Digestive problems, a damaged lower esophageal sphincter, an over acidic stomach, eating a large meal or H. pylori bacterium.
GERD is most commonly caused by a damaged lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus. Sometimes this damage from GERD is negligible and other times it is very bad. Nonetheless it can be solved in a very straightforward way!
When stomach acid vapors touches lesions on the esophagus GERD and heartburn is experienced. This can be very painful - like a feeling of scalding in the chest area. It feels similar to getting acidic vinegar in an open wound.
If you have lesions on your esophagus, you will feel pain when you drink orange or tomato juice (because of the acid in the juice). Clearly, people that don't suffer from that pain don't get GERD or heartburn because their digestive system is in good health.
