Why do I get GERD?

GERD and heartburn can have several origins. Some of these include: Digestive problems, an over acidic stomach, eating a large meal, H. pylori bacterium, or a damaged lower esophageal sphincter.

The majority of people experience GERD because they have damaged their (LES) lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus. GERD damage is sometimes nominal, but it is sometimes extreme. Nevertheless, it can be cured - and quite simply too!

People experience GERD, heartburn etc. because the stomach acid fumes come in contact with the lesions on their esophagus. This can be very painful - a sense of burning in the chest region. Ever get any acidic vinegar on a cut? Hurts doesn’t it?

Orange or tomato juice can cause pain for people the esophagus damage, as the acid in the drinks comes in contact with the sores causes pain. People that don’t have pain don't get GERD or heartburn because their digestive system has no problems.

Can I Correct It?

About GERD

GERD - heartburn diagram At least five to seven per cent of the worldwide population suffer from Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. (Prevalence based on once per day heartburn.) Weekly heartburn and/or acid regurgitation occurs in 19.8% of worldwide population.
Though GERD is universal, people tend to ignore the warning signs or not understand the symptoms. This is unlucky, because it is usually a curable problem. Grave problems can result if it isn't treated correctly.

Persistent heartburn is the most frequent, but not the only symptom of GERD. (Symptoms may not even be present amongst some people who carry the disease.) Heartburn is so common that it often is not associated with a serious disease like GERD. In general, people tend to treat GERD themselves, or deal with it in the wrong way.

GERD is an unremitting problem. To be cured, it has to be treated over a long period of time, even subsequent to symptoms disappearing. Treatment will include a addressing the problems of revising daily living procedures and the long-term use of medication. This can be achieved by using thorough follow-up, education and support.
