What is Acid Reflux?
The medical name for Acid Reflux is Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or more commonly, GERD. The regurgitation of stomach acid into the esophagus is the condition of Acid reflux (GERD). GERD is often erroneously taken as sporadic heartburn because heartburn is the biggest indicator of GERD. While normal heartburn is very irregular, the heartburn symptoms of acid reflux usually appear twice a week for at least 12 weeks, and can injure your esophagus.
GERD occurs when the stomach acid rising into the esophagus is common enough to result in changes to your daily life and/or hurt the esophagus. Situated at the crown of the stomach is a muscle called the lower esophageal sphincter, or the LES, which normally opens and closes allowing food to enter. Also, it shields the esophagus by blocking stomach acid from it. If somebody suffers from Acid Reflux Disease, their lower esophageal sphincter will open at unsuitable times. opening up the esophagus and allowing stomach acid to come into contact with it.
The disease can lead to severe health issues that need hospital treatment. Some people who suffer from acid reflux disease can get stomach acid in their lungs and start wheezing or coughing. A sore throat in acid reflux suffers is the result of acid burning the throat. If acid reaches the mouth, it can dissolve the enamel of the teeth. More on Acid Reflux
