Why do I get acid reflux?
Acid reflux and heartburn can have several origins. This includes: H. pylori bacterium, an over acidic stomach, eating a large meal, digestive problems or a damaged lower esophageal sphincter.
Acid reflux is experienced by most people as a result of having a damaged lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus. Injury from acid reflux can vary from being minor to being extensive. Nonetheless it is simple to cure!
People get acid reflux and heartburn when stomach acid vapor and esophagus lesions come into contact. This will be sore - like a burning feeling in the chest. It feels similar to getting acidic vinegar in an open wound.
When people drink orange or tomato juice the acid in the drinks comes in direct contact with the sores and lesions on the esophagus and it causes pain. Evidently, if drinking acidic juice doesn't cause someone pain they probably never get acid reflux or heartburn because their digestive system is in good health.

What is Acid Reflux?
Acid Reflux is called Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. Acid reflux (GERD) is the condition in which the liquid content of the stomach regurgitates (backs up, or refluxes) into the esophagus. Acid reflux is often confused with intermittent heartburn because heartburn is the most common indicator of acid reflux disease. While regular heartburn is only very occasional, GERD heartburn usually happens at least twice a week for at least 3 months and can damage your esophagus.
Acid reflux disease is when the stomach acid comes into contact with the esophagus often enough to damage the esophagus and/or have consequences on you day-to-day living. A muscle called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is located at the top of your stomach, which, to let food in, normally opens and closes. It also protects the esophagus by not allowing stomach acid up. The LES will open at inappropriate times if someone suffers from GERD, allowing the harmful stomach acid into the esophagus.
The disease can lead to severe health issues that require hospitalization and even surgery. Some people who suffer from acid reflux disease can get stomach acid in their lungs and start wheezing or coughing. GERD suffers can also develop a sore throat if the acid reaches it. If acid gets all the way into the mouth, it can begin to dissolve tooth enamel.. More on Acid Reflux
