Why do I get acid reflux?
Acid reflux and heartburn can originate from a range of different things. Some of these include: Eating a large meal, an over-acidic stomach, H. pylori bacterium, a damaged lower esophageal sphincter or digestive problems.
Acid reflux is most commonly caused by a damaged lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus. Injury from acid reflux can vary from being minor to being extensive. Nonetheless it is simple to cure!
Stomach acid fumes coming into contact with lacerations on their esophagus is the cause of acid reflux, heartburn. When they come into contact it will cause pain - like a burning feeling in the chest. Have you ever got acidic vinegar on a wound? It hurts!
When people drink orange or tomato juice the acid in the drinks comes in direct contact with the sores and lesions on the esophagus and it causes pain. Clearly, if someone doesn't get that pain they won't suffer from acid reflux or heartburn because their body is in good working order.

What is Acid Reflux?
GERD is the most common name for Acid Reflux. It is the acronym of the medical term Gastroesophageal reflux disease. When stomach acid is regurgitated back up into the esophagus, it is known as acid reflux, or GERD. Acid reflux disease (GERD) is often mistaken for occasional heartburn because heartburn is the most frequent symptom of GERD. But unlike occasional heartburn, the heartburn symptoms of acid reflux disease usually occur 2 or more days a week for at least three months, and can badly injure your esophagus.
Acid reflux disease is when the acid rises into the esophagus repeatedly enough to result in changes to your daily life and/or hurt the esophagus. Positioned at the top of your stomach is a muscle called the lower esophageal sphincter, or the LES, which lets food in by opening and shutting. It also protects the esophagus by not allowing stomach acid up. The LES will open at inappropriate times if someone suffers from GERD, letting the esophagus be exposed to the strong stomach acid - which is meant to stay in the stomach!
Acid reflux disease can also lead to more serious medical conditions that demand clinical treatment, and sometimes surgery. Wheezing or coughing is another symptom of GERD, and occurs when the person gets acid into their lungs. If stomach acid gets all the way up into the throat, it can result in pain (or a 'sore throat'). If acid gets into the mouth it can corrode tooth enamel.. More on Acid Reflux
