Why do I get acid reflux?
Acid reflux and heartburn can be the result of a variety of things. H. pylori bacterium, an over acidic stomach, eating a large meal, digestive problems or a damaged lower esophageal sphincter.
The majority of people experience acid reflux because they have damaged their (LES) lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus. Sometimes this damage from acid reflux is negligible and other times it is very bad. However it is easily cured!
Acid reflux, heartburn happens when abrasions on the esophagus are brought into contact with fumes from the stomach acid. This can be very painful - a sense of burning in the chest region. Ever get any acidic vinegar on a cut? Hurts doesn’t it?
People who have lesions on their esophagus would have a hard time drinking tomato, orange or any other acidic juice, because it would react with the sores and cause pain. Clearly, if someone doesn't get that pain they won't suffer from acid reflux or heartburn because their digestive system is working properly.

What is Acid Reflux?
Acid Reflux often called GERD - an abbreviation of the medical term Gastroesophageal reflux disease. Acid reflux (GERD) is the regurgitation (back up, or refluxed) of stomach acid into the esophagus. Acid reflux disease can sometimes be taken for irregular heartburn because that is the most common symptom! But unlike occasional heartburn, the heartburn symptoms of acid reflux disease usually occur 2 or more days a week for no less than 12 weeks, and can harm your esophagus.
Acid reflux disease is when the acid rises into the esophagus repeatedly enough to damage the esophagus and/or have consequences on you day-to-day living. Situated at the crown of the stomach is a muscle called the lower esophageal sphincter, or the LES, which lets food in by opening and shutting. It also works to stop stomach acid from refluxing into your esophagus. With GERD, the LES opens at inappropriate times, exposing the esophagus to stomach acid.
GERD can lead to more acute medical problems that call for a hospital and maybe surgery. Wheezing or coughing is another symptom of GERD, and occurs when the person gets acid into their lungs. A sore throat in acid reflux suffers is the result of acid burning the throat. If acid gets all the way into the mouth, it can begin to dissolve tooth enamel.. More on Acid Reflux
