Why do I get acid reflux?
Acid reflux and heartburn can originate from a range of different things. This includes: A damaged lower esophageal sphincter, an over acidic stomach, eating a large meal, H. pylori bacterium or digestive problems.
A damaged LES (lower esophageal sphincter) and esophagus is the most common reason for acid reflux. The harm caused by acid reflux varies - sometimes it is very slight, other times it can be quite major. However it can be eliminated easily!
When stomach acid vapors touches lesions on the esophagus acid reflux and heartburn is experienced. When they come into contact it will cause pain - like the sensation that the chest is being burnt from inside. It's the same feeling as getting acid on a cut.
If you have lesions on your esophagus, you will feel pain when you drink orange or tomato juice (because of the acid in the juice). Clearly, if someone doesn't get that pain they won't suffer from acid reflux or heartburn because their digestive organs are in good working order.

What is Acid Reflux?
The medical name for Acid Reflux is Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or more commonly, GERD. Acid reflux (GERD) is the condition where stomach acid is regurgitated into the esophagus. GERD can occasionally be confused with infrequent heartburn because heartburn is the most frequent symptom of GERD. While normal heartburn is very irregular, the heartburn symptoms of acid reflux usually appear twice a week for at least 12 weeks, and can injure your esophagus.
The disease occurs when the ascension of stomach acid into the esophagus is regular enough to damage the esophagus and/or control your daily life. Situated at the crown of the stomach is a muscle called the lower esophageal sphincter, or the LES, which opens and shuts to let food enter. In addition, it shelters the esophagus by preventing stomach acid from refluxing. The LES will open at inappropriate times if someone suffers from GERD, allowing the harmful stomach acid into the esophagus.
GERD can lead to more acute medical problems that call for hospitalization and perhaps surgery. Some people who suffer from acid reflux disease can get stomach acid in their lungs and start wheezing or coughing. Acid reflux in the throat can cause sore throat.
